TYPES OF ALIMONY IN NEVADA

While finance is one of the leading causes of divorce, it is also a contentious factor in the dissolution of a marriage. The court may order a spouse to pay alimony in one lump sum or through payments over time.

Nevada has two different types of alimony (spousal support):

  • General Alimony: This financial support allows the dependent spouse to sustain a reasonable standard of living.
  • Rehabilitative Support: This support enables the supported spouse to obtain training or education to become independent.

Spousal support is typically paid after final proceedings.

FACTORS IN SPOUSAL SUPPORT

If the court determines that spousal support is appropriate, the court then needs to determine the type of support and amount of support necessary. Determining the amount heavily depends on the individual needs and circumstances of the couple.

General alimony is generally rewarded based on the following factors, and more:

  • Each spouse's financial status, property value etc...
  • Each spouse's income, age, health, etc...
  • Each spouse's education, training, marketable skills etc...
  • Each spouse's career before marriage
  • The length of the marriage
  • The standard of living during the marriage

The best determination of your spousal support amount will come from your attorney. If you live in Henderson and are headed towards divorce, alimony can have a costly effect on the rest of your life.
